You probably should question the owner, about why the transmission went out....
Could have been a bad trans...
could be they towed a 50 foot sailboat with it....
could be they let their 16 year old drive it....
Either of the last two..would be a red flag to me.....Is it a big concern if a used car for sale has a new transmission?
actually i agree with everyone as the new transmission as a blessing but i personally believe if that was done then life expectancy on the timing belt has decreased as well. also the water might need to be serviced/replaced.
the reason being is operating the vehicle under heavy load at times (gunning it) will shorten the transmssion's life and among other things: belts, radiator, coolant, oil, gaskets, etc.
i have an 03 lancer with 99K+ miles on it. my transmission is still in great condition because i don't gun as as much and i changed the fluid every 30K miles or less.
if they have service records check it. if all that i mentioned has been replaced then go ahead and make a deal.
Why would it be?
The car had a bad transmission, and rather than hiding it like a lot of sellers do, the seller bought a new transmission and fixed the problem.
What would you rather have, an 8 year old car with a used tranny, or an 8 year old car with a new one?
I'm with the other guy.
At what point of ';new transmission'; which means something is new, likely has a warranty, and fixed a problem...do you see any red flag at all?
The only thing it tells me is that the seller is a responsible car owner and fixes things.
prob, means the car has been driven hard so... but problem is fix now so shouldnt hurt it now
No.
The tranny will now last 10 years instead of 2....
